Starting 10/10/2018 at 8:30 AM until 3:30 PM
Event Groups:
• Elementary Science Program - Professional Development
Description:
PreRequisite: An Introduction to the NYSSLS This two-day workshop will take participants to the next level of understanding about the NYSSLS. Phenomenon, questioning, modeling go hand-in-hand. By incorporating these practices in the elementary science classroom, we expect to improve science instruction and student achievement. - Day 1: Teachers will expand their understanding of phenomenon by participating as "students in a classroom." As teachers, participants will figure out how questions can be used within a lesson/unit to make it more student-centered. Modeling is used to help assess prior knowledge and current learning. - Prior to Day 2: Teachers will implement their learning about teaching with phenomena and the practices of asking questions and modeling. Teachers should prepare to present their experiences to the group, bringing artifacts of their learning on Day 2. - Day 2: Participants will meet back together to reflect on the classroom implementation, share their artifacts of learning and participate in feedback discussions on how to refine their practice. Participants will leave Day 2 with concrete next-steps related to incorporating phenomena, questioning, and modeling into their daily instruction. Two days: Oct. 10 and Dec. 11. Click here to register.
