Common Core Learning Standards Resources

The Elementary Science Program has already begun developing Common Core Learning Standards lessons for use with our existing units. In addition, we have been identifying complex text resources that will assist ELA instruction and creating "mini units" that integrate science.

We at ESP believe that excellent science instruction includes opportunities for students to experience the world the way scientists do! This means that students should be asking questions, making observations, doing research, manipulating materials, and thinking logically to create a good investigation. Students should DO science. So, when we integrate science with the CCLS, we approach it from this point of view....how can we create opportunities for students to share common experiences (to which they will attach new vocabulary words) and also provide an opportunity to read, talk, listen to others and reflect in writing about what they are learning. When we integrate with math, we apply mathematical concepts within the context of a science experience by creating data tables, graphs, interpreting those graphs in writing, etc.

This page will evolve to include Resources that are FREE for teachers to use to connect science instruction with the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics.

Please let us know what you think about it!
