Learning Standards

The Elementary Science Program develops units that are correlated to NYS Elementary and Intermediate Core Curriculums and the Common Core Learning Standards for ELA and Math.  ESP is updating our curriculum to align with the 3-Dimensional learning of the New York State Science Learning Standards (DRAFT)/NGSS.

The links on this page provide the necessary resources to help teachers integrate science lessons with ELA and math lessons. This integration not only saves time in the classroom, but allows students to make cross-curricular connections in their learning.

ESP firmly believes that students should DO science. When the units integrate science with the Common Core Learning Standards, we think about how we can create opportunities for students to share common experiences (to which they will attach new vocabulary words) and also provide an opportunity to read, talk, listen to others and reflect in writing about what they are learning. When we integrate with math, we apply mathematical concepts within the context of a science experience by creating data tables, graphs, interpreting those graphs in writing, etc.
