The Properties unit is a fundamental block in the Elementary Science Program's curriculum. It aims to build students' observation skills and develop their vocabulary, tying science and language arts skill development together in a very powerful fashion.
Students sort objects by
color, shape, size, texture and material they are made of. They explore
whether items sink or float, they mass items with a double pan balance.
They learn about how the properties of solids, liquids and gases differ.
One way to look at the properties of gases is to make bubbles since they have a gas inside them.
The LeRoy School District has some Properties Webpages.
Visit our Observation Games page and see if there are any you can use to help students build their observation skills.
