The draft version of the New York State Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS) has been posted for comment (via a survey) at this website: http://www.p12.nysed.gov/ciai/mst/sci/nyssls.htmlIn addition, the Science Education Consortium has put together a terrific video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRMncbjxkFQ&feature=youtu.be for use introducing the Standards and asking for feedback.
The survey has comment boxes where specific concerns can be added. Please be sure to write in your thoughts about related issues, such as dedicated time for elementary science and whether or not you think that Middle School should have grade-specific standards.
Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES will be offering a “Review of the draft NYSSLS” session on January 11th in Spencerport, NY. There is more information on the Monroe 2 BOCES website about this.
If you’d like to get a written FAQ document about the NYSSLS, drop me an email and I’ll be happy to send it to you. [email protected]
Please send this information on to anyone interested in science in New York State. We want to share the information far and wide so that the NYS Regents can make an informed decision about adoption of the Standards document.
